THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

Through the looking glass, beyond dark murky waters, her fecund imagination caught by the ripples of a dancing ribbon.

A language of patience and time, revealed wisdom, that floats on a current, home to New Zealand to dance again.

Glass eel, elusive and slick
A creature of myth, of magic and trick
Born in the ocean, a journey begun
A tale of the Tuna, from which it has sprung

The Maori people tell a story old
Of Tuna, the chief of eels bold
With a body like a serpent, and a spirit fierce
He swam the waters, without any fear

Tuna's journey began in Hawaiki's realm
A sacred place where spirits dwell
He braved the waves, to reach Aotearoa's shore
Where he found a new home, forevermore

Tuna, the eel, is a symbol of strength
A creature that endures, a power of great length
The glass eel, a sign of new life and hope
A symbol of Tuna's journey, a way to cope

For the Maori people, Tuna is more than just an eel
He's a messenger of the gods, a spirit to feel
A connection to nature, to the land and the sea
A reminder of the past, and the future to be

So let the glass eel swim, through the rivers and streams
A symbol of Tuna's journey, a part of our dreams
For the Tuna is a kōrero, that will never grow old
A tale of kaha, and a wairua bold.
