HERBERT PONTING’S IMAGES serve as a testament to the indomitable human spirit

It is not just about capturing the faces of those who brave the harshest conditions on Earth; it's about preserving the living history of their courage and dedication. A reminder of our capacity to overcome adversity, and an inspiration for future generations to continue exploring and protecting our planet's last frontier.

look through the lens of antarctic pioneer photographer herbert ponting

An invitation to join Rewa Rendall as she explores 19th Century photographic techniques through the lens of Herbert George Ponting, expedition photographer for Robert Falcon Scott’s Terra Nova Expedition to the South Pole 1910-1913. Rewa will use 19th-century processes and techniques to capture contemporary Antarctic explorers and develop them in the same darkroom that Ponting once used.

Together, we can continue the narrative of Antarctic exploration and inspire future generations through the preservation of our unique past.

Step inside Kinsey Cottage at Ferrymead Heritage Park this December.

A captivating journey into the world of Herbert George Ponting, featuring immersive experiences with 19th-century photography techniques. This project, led by photographer Rewa Rendall, celebrates the historical significance of Ponting's work and invites visitors to explore the Antarctic legacy through art, education, and contemporary narratives in the heart of Christchurch.
